Alrosa Supplies $39.16 Million Rough Diamonds to Armenian Companies

Russian Alrosa raw-diamond producer has supplied this year $39.16 million worth raw diamonds to Armenian diamond-cutting companies, according to a press release sent to ARKA by Armenian ministry of economy. Armenian companies resumed purchase of rough diamonds from Alrosa in 2009 December, which were interrupted by the global economic crisis.

Economy minister Tigran Davtyan visited today two diamond companies Arevak and Lori in Kotayk region and was shown a new technology that has no analogues in the world. Davtyan was quoted as saying that Alrosa is a reliable supplier of rough diamonds, (it accounts for 90% of rough diamonds supplies to Armenia). "We hope that about 20 Armenian diamond processing enterprises will expand their activities, and for this we intend to seek new partners and suppliers of raw materials in addition to Alrosa", said Davtyan.

During the first half of 2011 seven diamond cutting companies produced 2.46 billion drams output, by 6.5% more from a year before and exported 2.95 billion drams worth products, by 9.3% more from the same time span in 2010. The sector employs 400 workers.

According to the National Statistical Service of Armenia, in January-September 2011 Armenian diamond-cutting plants produced 51,500 carats of diamond, by 8.3% more from a year earlier. In 2010 Alrosa boosted sales of rough and cut diamonds by 1.6 times to $3.48billion.

 
Armenian Jewelers Worldwide Present Activities at Paris-Hosted Conference

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian Jewelers Association (AJA) presented its activities and future projects during an annual conference in Paris.

The initiative was made possible though support of Diaspora Minister Hranush Hakobyan and Armenian Ambassador to France Vigen Chitechyan.

"Armenia acknowledges the importance of jewellery sector, taking efforts to achieve its dynamic development," Mr. Chitechyan stated at Nov 5 event.

AJA President Gagik Gevorgyan, AJA Europe President Hovel Shnorhokian, Armenian jewelers from all over the world and representatives of the Armenian community of France attended the conference, Armenian Foreign Misty press service reported.

 
Armenian Diamond Processing Companies Disfavor Price Rise By Russian Alrosa

PanARMENIAN.Net - Main supplier for Armenian diamond processing industry Russian Alrosa company has supplied rough diamond totaling USD 39,16mln to 7 companies as of November 1, 2011.

Director of Arevakn diamond producing plant, Vardan Anderasyan told journalists that Alrosa has increased cost of rough diamond against decline in world prices, causing 20% loss.

Fort the past months increase in Arevakn LLC production totaled 142,7% against the same period of 2010.

Deputy director of Lori diamond-cutting plant Grigor Shahnazaryan, who shares Anderasyan's opinion, added that the price upsurge urged them to decrease purchase volume from the Russian company.
